STARLIGHT MINOR is a remarkable story written by Daryl Farry, an RAAMC medic who was attached to C Coy 4RAR/NZ (ANZAC) during the Battalion’s first tour of South Vietnam from 1968 to 1969.

The story intertwines with the experiences of Daryl’s grandfather as a stretcher bearer in World War One with 1st Field Ambulance and Daryl’s own childhood and his experiences as a medic in Vietnam.

Daryl writes so well that the sounds, smells and experiences of our childhoods and our Vietnam experiences are echoed within his memories.

An adventure story about two youths, one, a bloke from the bush - Kangaroo Creek is a real-life story of a larrikin Australian. Garry Chad tells of growing up in the bush, of close Aboriginal connections, of Army experience in peace, of active service in Vietnam with three different infantry battalions (The 1st, 6th and 4th Battalions of The Royal Australian Regiment) and serving  alongside the US 173rd Airborne Brigade (the ‘Big Red One’) and the Kiwis. During his tours Garry was twice wounded in action.
The other youth is Wang Chi Hoe from North Vietnam, who was also wounded and then killed in action.
This book is more than a story of a soldier’s life and it goes beyond the usual Vietnam Veterans’ experiences of mateship, hardship and war history. Sometimes humorous, sometimes brutal, always honest - this book tells it as it is.
