The executive of the 4 RAR Assoc, Qld Inc attended five ceremonies and functions during the ANZAC Day period. On Wednesday 23 April Alan Price, Maureen Price and Jan Beurskens were invited to the Helensvale Primary School service, Thursday saw Alan Price, Maureen Price, Clive Clewley and Jaye Clewley at the Mitchelton High School service. Friday 25 April saw Alan Price, Maureen Price, Clive Clewley and Jaye Clewley at the Dawn Service conducted by the RAR Association, Qld at the National Memorial Walk at the Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera and of course Alan Price and our new patron, Lt Col Brian Avery (Retd) led the ANZAC Day march in Brisbane followed by the 4 RAR reunion back at the 8/9 RAR Ramís Retreat back at Enoggera.

The respect shown by all school children was remarkable. Not one voice was heard nor fidgeting seen during the silences at both schools and services and the detail of the home-made wreaths silently and reverently laid by the children of the schools was excellent. The choirs and bands of both the schools are to be commended for their ability and their enthusiasm. At both the schools, the children conducted and led the services displaying a maturity and understanding well beyond their years.

Approximately 6 association members attended the dawn service and approximately 50 joined the parade.  Three new East Timor members attended and were invited to join the association and two carried the banner. The sonís of two members, one RAAF and one RAN were invited to march with us as well as a former Sig who was attached to us in Borneo.  The granddaughter of Yogi Upton (Life Member) marched wearing her grandfather's medals as did Lisa Mountney and Jordan Mountney, a daughter and grandson of a 4 RAR member but wearing the medals of their great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. All up eight people were invited to join the association as financial members on ANZAC Day and over 3,000 students, teachers and parents were reminded of the name and the deeds of 4 RAR, especially in the East Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts.  Later in the year, we will be inviting the children of Helensvale school to again write to the members of 2 Cdo Regt serving at home and overseas.
