Private Christopher Roost, aged 22, from Perth, Western Australia was a sheet metal worker prior to being called up for National Service on 19 April 1967. He was posted to 4RAR and sailed with the Battalion to South Vietnam in May 1968.
During Operation GOODWOOD in Bien Hoa Province on 23 December 1968, 8 Platoon, mounted in Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) had moved forward to investigate enemy sightings. One half of the platoon dismounted and moved forward on foot. The dismounted patrol was engaged with a directional mine and five members of the patrol were wounded. Helicopter evacuation was called for but unfortunately Chris died of his wounds before he could be evacuated.
