Lance Corporal Donald I. Bensemann
V Company
Killed in Action; 16 November 1968

Lance Corporal Donald Bensemann was acting as a section commander in 2 Platoon, V Company which was a company of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (RNZIR). Because of the attachment of both V and W Companies of the RNZIR, 4RAR was re-rolled as 4RAR/NZ (ANZAC) during its tours in South Vietnam.

During Operation CAPITAL 2 in Phuoc Tuy Province, 2 Platoon, accompanied by a tracker team, was tasked to ambush a track. Just 80 meters from the selected ambush position, the lead section was fired upon from close quarters by at least nine automatic weapons and a machine gun from an enemy bunker complex. Donald, who was the lead section commander and two other soldiers immediately returned fire but Donald was hit and killed by a gunshot wound to his throat.
