The Fighting Fourth
MALAYA / SARAWAK - SOUTH VIETNAM - TIMOR & TIMOR LESTE - IRAQ - AFGHANISTAN
Alpha Company of 2/4 RAR provided the nucleus of the Australian contingent to Rwanda tasked to provide security for the Australian Medical Support Force (AMSF), while other 2/4 RAR personnel were tasked in the contingents headquarters, as medical assistants and in logistical functions in support of the AMSF.
This operation, Operation Tamar, was instrumental to the Australian Government's 1994 White Paper identifying the need for an additional infantry battalion and the decision to unlink 2 RAR and 4 RAR to expand the Australian Army's capability and meet strategic requirements.
